Poe Center for Health Education

The Alice Aycock Poe Center is a non-profit organization dedicated to positively impacting the lives of North Carolina youth through health education. Since opening in Raleigh in 1991, the Poe Center has educated over 715,000 participants from 73 counties using state-of-the-art teaching, exhibits, learning theaters and offiste programs. By engaging in fun, highly interactive lessons, school-age youth receive age-appropriate information on a variety of health topics, including nutrition, dental health, general health, family life and drug education.

The VP of Programs provides oversight and leadership in the development, implementation, and evaluation of all Poe Center health education programs and curriculum. In coordination with the operations staff, the VP of Programs oversees the daily operations of both in-house and off-site programs. As a member of the senior management team, the VP of Programs works closely with the CEO, board of directors and related board committees to set the strategic direction for educational programs and initiatives. The VP of programs provides expertise in program evaluation, and is responsible for designing and implementing data collection, analysis and reporting systems that objectively measure program outcomes. The VP of Programs supervises health education staff, including on-going professional development and performance appraisals for those individuals.

BS degree in health education or related field required. Master's degree preferred. Ten years combined experience in program management and evaluation and/or direct program delivery in a health or related field. Additional health education certifications and training favorably considered. Demonstrated understanding of the principles of prevention, health education and the art of teaching. Demonstrated experience in program development, implementation and evaluation. Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate those being supervised as well as ability work as a team member. Ability to make independent decisions and manage multiple responsibilities with minimal supervision. Strong commitment to the Poe Center’s mission. Demonstrated excellence in written, oral and interpersonal communication skills. Proficiency in use of educational and office technologies, including, but not limited to Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
