An employee in this position serves as “Child Care Health Consultant:, providing health care resources for daycare centers and family child care homes as assigned; provides training on topics related to health, safety, and nutrition; observes classrooms to evaluate nutrition, health, and safety issues; completes monthly visits to licensed facilities; provides telephone consultation concerning health, nutrition, and safety issues; completes annual immunization audits of facilities and monthly audits of new students; prepares monthly mailings; attends meetings with other Child Care Health Consultants; completes research on childcare topics; and participates in disaster planning and other community health activities as needed. Must have general knowledge of the principles, standards, practices, and techniques of health education and grant administration; knowledge of local and state rules and regulations related to child care and Smart Start grant criteria. Must have ability to exercise judgment in making decisions; ability to accurately maintain data and prepare reports; ability to solve problems within the scope of responsibility; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with pre-schoolers, parents, day care staff and Smart Start/Partnership for Children staff.
A master’s degree in public health education or in public health with a major in public health education; or graduation from a four-year college or university with a major in health education and two years experience in public health education or a related field; or graduation from a four-year college or university and three years experience in public health education; or an equivalent combination of training or experience.
